Water Disposal Well Abandonment

CG provided the engineering, regulatory support and wellsite supervision for the abandonment and suspension of a water disposal well near Dawson Creek, BC.

The injection bottom hole assembly was pulled out of the hole and casing integrity was ensured. A cement retainer was ran into the well and the formation was squeezed off.

Cement was then left on top of the retainer and cement was dump bailed into the well. The well was cut and capped.

Legacy Pipeline System Abandonment & Leaking Wellbore Re-abandonment

CG provided the engineering, regulatory support and wellsite supervision for the abandonment of a pipeline system and the re-abandonment of a leaking wellbore near Pembina, AB.

The pipeline was excavated and exposed. Pipelines were purged with N2 and displaced with water. Surface risers were removed and disposed of.

When a previously abandoned well was found to be leaking, the location was excavated to find the casing stub. The conductor was cut back, and a wellhead was welded on. A tubing head was installed to stop the leak and a proper vent was installed.

Dual Well Abandonment in Northern Alberta

CG provided the engineering, regulatory support and wellsite supervision for the abandonment of two wells in Northern Alberta.

The tubing strings were pulled out of the hole and the formations were abandoned as per AER Directive 20 by setting permanent bridge plugs and dump bailing 8 meters of cement on top.

The cement tops were found by Cement Bond Logs. The casing was perforated and cement was circulated to surface. The wells were cut and capped.

Gas Migration Testing & Wellhead Reinstallation on Historic Wells

CG worked with Alberta Culture and Tourism and the Alberta Energy Regulator to execute a well and gas migration testing program on the historic Dingman #1 and #2 wells in the Turner Valley Gas Plant.

Services included gas migration testing and submissions, re-entry applications, hot tapping, killing a flowing casing stump, and re-installation of a wellhead on a leaking cut and capped well.

Downhole Well Abandonment & Suspension Including Re-entry

CG completed a downhole abandonment and suspension campaign for 11 vertical and horizontal wells near Grande Prairie, AB.

The completions and downhole equipment varied between wells, and one required re-entry due to the presence of gas migration. The well was re-entered and the source of the gas migration was located and remediated to abandon it as per AER directive 20.

CG has also managed the commissioning and decommissioning of surface facilities and pipelines for our clients in the Grande Prairie area.

Conventional Gas Well & Pipeline Abandonments

CG completed the downhole and surface abandonment (including pipelines) of 11 conventional gas wells near Oyen, AB as well as other abandonments in Neutral Hills up to Consort, AB.

The wells in this area were less than 1000 meters and produced out of a variety of formations including the Manville, Bakken, Viking, Milk River and Banff formations.

Surface abandonment included site decommissioning, initial site reclamation and all regulatory compliance with the AER as well as an application to the Orphan Well Fund for abandonment re-imbursement.

Well, Pipeline, and Surface Facility Abandonments

CG provided the engineering, regulatory support and wellsite supervision for the abandonment and suspension of 10 wells (including pipelines and surface facilities) near Mitsue, AB.

The wells in this area were mostly less than 1000 meter vertical wells with completions in the Gething, Banff, Grande Rapids and Second White Specs formations.

Abandonments were completed using both service rigs and wireline units. Some wells had packers, tubing, coil and other equipment downhole and others were abandoned simply using a wireline unit.

After downhole abandonment was completed, the wells were cut and capped, and the surface facilities (including pipelines) were removed leaving the site ready for reclamation.
